Prompt: People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Response: There was a point in time where I was friends with a girl who was a bad influence and I had to step away from her. We used to have a good friendship back in 9th grade, but when I noticed how she started to hang around problematic and hateful people I had to step back and try not to involve myself with that. At the time I felt bad for wanting to end a friendship but I knew that what she was doing wasn't healthy. That moment made me realize that I'm not responsible for other people's actions and that I should prioritize being around healthier environments. Having that distance away from her helped me avoid being in a bad friendship and normalizing problematic behavior.

Reflection: I thought about if I would ever trust someone to hitchhike.
